Great instructors and patrons, who make it a fun no-judgment experience!

A Great vibe to this venue; A New York City feel which I Love, and the reception Ladies are very welcoming. Very talented instructors.

Corbet Fawcett

Great place, friendly staff, good teachers. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the change rooms are crazy crowded between classes.

I've only been with City Dance Corps for a little while but so far I'm really impressed. I've been taking tap with Amy and from the moment walked in I was so impressed with the vibe at CDC. Very welcome space, all ages, all body types, all range of skill levels are represented and everyone is supported and there because they want to learn and love dance. I had an injury after my very first class and was told by my physiotherapist I couldn't continue until I was healed, the administrative staff were so helpful and supportive and really talked to me like a fellow dancer. I'll never forget being spoken to like that when I was so disappointed to have to stop. Thank you for that! I've taken dance classes at other smaller studios and the only potential negatives I've seen so far are just the same negatives you'd experience somewhere else in Toronto. The buildings are full of character but sometimes that also means there's classrooms that are a bit on the small side for a normal size class. So sometimes you have lots of space, and sometimes you have to be kind and share. It totally depends on the instructor on how supported you feel. But my instructor is great and I'm inspired by her passion for what she does and mentoring others. The range of classes in the same space is really a huge asset. Every time I'm waiting for class and watching another one I'm like "ooo I want to do that" every floor is like another little wonderland with whole new worlds behind the door. So much potential to learn different types of dance and ways to move here.

**Warning: long review ahead. I've taken mostly Latin classes sprinkled with Bollywood and Ballet.** I am really enjoying my time here with CDC! I started with Bachata Level 1 with Cornell and over the last 6 months of going consistently, I've made great progress! Now in Bachata Level 2 and in Zamalya's classes, where she teaches Bachata technique and Sensual Bachata, and she's an absolute gem. My confidence in Bachata made me try Salsa where I took a 4 week intro course with Celina, including one private lesson, which was excellent. I continued with both Salsa Beg 1 and Beg 2 with Melanie who is an excellent and passionate instructor, and now just graduating into Intermediate. The downsides of these Latin classes that I've found that (1) it's often full. It's harder to learn with 15+ people crammed in small room. I also took a few classes with Alejandro where our class size was under 8 which was so ideal because we got to switch frequently and truly felt like we got individual attention to our weaknesses. Obviously not the teacher's fault for a full class but that's just how the dice rolls sometime (2) some people don't belong in that level. In my Beg 2 class with Melanie, where people have to go through 4 weeks of intro and 4 weeks of Beg 1, there were still some students who didn't know the basics and were consistently off rhythm. Melanie had to review moves that we learned in Intro series so that everyone could be on the same page again. So after 30 or so minutes of warm up and review... is when we finally start learning our one move of the day. For someone who practices at home and is eager to learn, paying for a class that doesn't fully challenge you is frustrating. Feedback for the studio as a whole: (3) Students should be warned that classes are more like 52 minutes then a full 60 minutes. Because all classes are back to back, you have to wait for the teacher in the current class to end on time (which often they don't end on time) ---- For Bollywood, I took two drop in classes with Ria who brings such playful energy to the space. I forgot how much I enjoyed learning and performing choreography. It's almost impossible to not smile to the music. I took two friends the first time and we all loved it. For Ballet, I'm taking the 7-week intro to ballet for absolute beginners with Esra who is crazy skilled in what she does. I enjoy how she breaks things down the same way that she teaches kids because a non ballet guy like myself have no idea what's going on sometimes. I honestly do not have fun in ballet. You don't dance much until much later and it feels kind of awkward most of the time. However, every dancer and their mom has told me that ballet is fundamental, so that's kind of the point. It will help in any form of dance, so I appreciate learning the technical aspects of the form. ---- The front desk staff has always been incredibly responsive and friendly, in person and through phone/email. Shout outs to Liz, Daphne, Maude, and Diana The community itself is amazing. Everyone is warm and enjoys dance, just for the love of dance. No one is putting on make up and recording themselves for Instagram. Every student I've seen genuinely wants to get better and improve for their own dance goals. I never get this competitive feel when I'm in a class. most of the veterans are generous enough to guide me most of the times. ---- Thanks for all you do, CDC and team! This studio is like my 3rd home. While things are not perfect (who is?) I appreciate the diversity in classes and people in the studio, as well as the warm friendly culture I get from the community.

Would not reccomend for beginners or people new to dancing. The staff isnt very welcome. The classes were fast paced and i felt myself more trying to keep up and stressing than having fun. However could just be the teacher I had. Nice studio But nothing like The Underground dance centre on richmond. They are the best in T.O

Went to City Dance Corps for the first time to learn ballet! I had never danced before and went in feeling nervous, but the whole staff is super friendly and inviting and I ended the first class wanting to return the next day! Our instructor was very energetic and we were able to laugh at ourselves in class when we made mistakes, and the whole experience was very enjoyable overall! The studio is beautiful and it is in a convenient location right downtown. They also sell dance shoes and clothing if you need to purchase something for a class! Great environment, highly recommend! 10 stars!

We have had a very bad treat everytime we had to do work in the building.I wonder how a business as such can survive with very rude attitude. All employees including owners are very rude and unpleasant.

This school has some of the best teachers. Friendly and very helpful staff. Variety of programs, there’s something for everybody, doesn’t matter what age or level you are.

This is the best dance school with amazing instructors. I've been doing Adult ballet since 2019 with them, and the experience has been wonderful. Thank you City Dance Corps!

This place is great, very friendly, not intimidating for beginners and lots of space on 4 floors. My House music dance teacher, Raoul was awesome and a knowledgeable, patient teacher. I have discovered my new hangout.

Jennifer Siripong Mandel

I signed my child up for their youth classes, and planned to go for a Quarter (3 months). They auto-billed my credit card for the following session claiming they only do year terms (seriously, for toddlers?), I asked for a refund as I did not plan on continuing class, and they refused! Anyway, the class is chaos, with children running around, screaming, not paying attention to the teacher. There is no discipline in the class, and it was a sad introduction to dance for my daughter. I would not recommend the youth program to anyone, as we have found much better classes in the city.

I went there for Aerial silks classes. Loved every bit of it. Best classes ever and tones of fun. Can be challenging to spot the entrance from Queen str W, look out for their logo. Building is long and floors are squeaky, but thats like everywhere in old buildings in downtown, just can be a little annoying while training. Otherwise its a nice place and convenient location. Well maintained and teachers are really dedicated.

I have dealt with CDC for many years now. My previous experience with them had been not excellent, not horrible, but generally a studio that has great teacher and adequate service so no complain. However, this year I had multiple dealings with CDC that made me realize just how bad their customer service and studio policy are. I have spoke to management about a good portion of these and the response had been very antagonizing. This is the reason why I am posting this review because I felt like these issues should be known to anyone who wish to attend class at CDC. Studio condition: 1. no water fountain, I was told you can either purchase water at front desk or get water out of bathroom sink (or of course, bring your own) 2. at least 2 studio have un-even floor / hole on the floor Class cancellation policy: 1. Class cancellation policy was not communicated to student before class start, or clearly marked anywhere on the website : I went to a drop in class once where the teacher and two students were there, they cancel the class because there wasn’t 4 people in class and refund everyone’s class as studio credit, not the cash I paid before class. 2. There is no deadline to when the class cancellation policy kick in for performance class : I was enroll in the 12 weeks performance class, 4 weeks in they are still waiting for more people to register and I was told the entire time that the class might cancel. 3. Multi-drop in class package vs. cancel class : If you purchased a multi-class package with expiry date, the class credit you get (due to cancellation policy) will be on the same expiry date as original package. Say the package expiry tomorrow, I come in for a drop in today and unfortunately it got cancel, I have to come in for class tomorrow otherwise it expire. 4. Performance class cancellation fee too high. Their website stated if a student committed to a performance class and then back out, they are subject to a cancellation fee. When I had some work commitments that conflicted with the class and I had to drop out, I called expecting a % of cancellation fee as most service do. To my surprise, I was told the cancellation fee would be $250 which was the price of the class and there would be no refund as a result. Combined with what I stated above, many other issues not listed here, and the fact that whenever I tried to escalated I am met with CDC pointing finger at me and making up policies I never heard of. CDC is clearly a business that spend more time trying to get more money from you then providing a good service. I say take your money else where, there are plenty other dance studio in town. -------------------------edit 5 days after original review posted CDC manager Melissa have called back and offer a refund to my performance class. (full class amount - $25:special workshop class price for the 1 class I did attend - $25 admin fee) We also spoked about part of my review that wasn't my own experienced an those were remove.

I signed up for their 7-day free trial but would up getting charged for a full month of unlimited classes after that, no refund. They did eventually give me a credit at their studio, but it's very difficult to use as I live in Vancouver.

Jamie Cassandra

This is by far the bitchiest dance studio I have ever attended. The first time I attended a class I told the receptionist I wanted to pay full price for the class, and then I would decide if I wanted to do the $50 new member trial because I was already doing a new member trial at Brass Vixens (which is awesome by the way) and would do their trial after Brass Vixens was finished. She told me that the trial starts when the first class is attended, which is bullshit because I saw other people paying for single classes afterwards. It was just a mistake on my part probably to tell her I would be doing the trial later on. She just wanted me to sign up right away. The actual class (flexibility) was cancelled because there was a minimum of 4 people necessary for the instructor to do the class and there were only 3 of us. Then a few days later I attended the ballet barre class, and was going to take flexibility afterwards. However I got the times mixed up and thought flex was right after ballet so I rented a mat for $1. I even asked the receptionist if I should rent a mat for flex. After realizing the class wasn't in session, I went up to the receptionist and said "Ok well I don't think that class is flex, no one had a mat and they were doing choreography." She told me in a rude way "No that's a JAZZ class." and I said "What time does flex start?" and she said 8. I returned the mat and waited, but she just stared at her computer and didn't even offer to return the $1, which isn't a big deal but it's the principle of the matter. It's also REALLY hot in the rooms all the time. It's a dance studio, it's supposed to be air conditioned with fans going. Since they're so focused on saving money I guess it makes sense for them, but if I won the lottery I would totally give them 20K or something to improve that. I would be as bitchy as they treated me while giving them the cheque, saying with a snide little smile "Hey, uh, I thought you guys could use this. Good luck!" I will not be back to this studio even though my pass is still valid for 9 days. The only good thing I have to say is that the Hip Hop for beginners instructor is really cool.

Victoria Denstedt

Wow so fun, the receptionists are always up for friendly chatter before and after classes when they aren't busy. I took absolute beginner ballet. the teacher Angel is so nice and fun and a wonderful dancer! so glad i decided to try it out Only downside, my second set of classes seemed a little crowded too many people to be able to focus as much.

I took Louisa Boultbee's intro to tango workshop with my partner and we had a fabulous time. Small class size, and she is a very passionate, creative teacher. Very dedicated to nailing the fundamentals. Can't wait to take more classes with her.

I took the Argentine Tango beginners class with Louise Boultbee and was really impressed by the pace, structure, and teacher involvement in each session. Louise is a fantastic teacher who is patient, thorough, and gets to the point. A real professional. Would highly recommend.

Nina Blanc Experience

Utilized this space to practice for a private rehearsal and it was a great experience overall. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. The space was authentic with a victorian style feel to the esthetic. The bathroom was clean and organized. The location is excellent, convenient, easily accessable by public transit

Alida T

I really like the teachers there, some of them are true gems like Jamie Valin and Kate Knox. However the studio floors are so filthy it is disgusting! Especially Studio 3. They told me they only clean it 3 times a week, however for a studio that runs classes every day every hour, they should be wet cleaning the floors at the end of each day! I am taking an acro class on sundays and it is a first class of the day in Studio 3. The floors are so dirty we leave with our feet looking like we just walked on coal. And because it is Acro we spend a lot of time on the floor....on the positive note the teacher Jessica Mannara is amazing!

Fit-City Guide

The Ballet Boot Camp class incorporates ballet, yoga and Pilates based movements for a continuous fat burning workout that will leave you feeling tall, toned and as graceful as Misty Copeland (for half a second, anyway).

City Dance Corps is a wonderful place to explore and build a lasting passion for dance. All of the instructors are professionals with years of experience and training. The studio offers a warm, inviting non competitive atmosphere. The schedule has a class for everyone, all ages and levels are always welcome. I recommend this studio for anyone looking for the real deal!!

Great variety in drop-in schedule. Convenient location. Drop-in price expensive compared to other locations. Tried their hiphop, contemporary, and jazz classes; enjoyed all three. Studio can feel a little small depending on which room and how many show up.

Took my first class - Spice Girls workshop over the weekend and I absolutely loved it. Friendly front office staff and the instructors made everyone feel welcome. Even if you're not an experienced dancer they always ask if you need any reputation. They brought the energy and I felt amazing after!! Will definitely come back for another workshop as I don't live downtown, but this place is definitely worth a try!

Couldn’t attend today, and they didn’t let me take the same class on a different day. Also, it’s expensive.

EDIT: After I posted this review and emailed the studio they apologized, offered to refund the fee and even provided some free classes for the misunderstanding, so I have revised my rating. Thanks, CDC! -- The policies at this studio are incredibly unfair. A couple of months ago they cancelled a seven-week registered course I had signed up for due to the fact that not enough students had signed up. I get that - they have rent to pay and they'd rather use that space/timeslot for a more profitable class. But then they refused to provide a refund for the course and instead told me they would credit the $100+ dollars outstanding to my account. This is incredibly unfair as they would basically get a guarantee of my continued business even though they had inconvenienced me through the cancellation AND the class I was looking to take was no longer available. After some argument I finally convinced the staff to refund my credit card but they charged me a $25 administrative penalty. Why should I pay a penalty for the refund after they cancelled the class on me? Not to mention their other unfair policies, such as charging students money to replace a lost shoe tag and cancelling drop-ins if fewer than four students show up (a major inconvenience to the students who did show up and to the instructor).

Super friendly, attentive and supportive staff, as well as a wonderful variety of classes for all levels! As a non-dancer, I felt comfortable and welcomed here, which played a crucial role in improving my skills

To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love...who doesnt enjoy falling in love? But it's with dance and it body and movement. A large variety of classes to choose from daily, great instructors, wonderful dance companions of various levels. It's a weekly standing date for me at CDC #lifechanging #happy2020 #perfectvision

Balázs Lajtha

Great instructors, friendly reception. Classes are not to crowded, good gender ballance. We love it.

After going back and forth with Maude and Diana, receiving the contract from them and been asked to provide my visa (in order to rent a room for a one time thing) they have decided that it will conflict with their classes ... Why to advertise a studio rental on your website then? Why did they send me the contract and asked my visa and then changed your mind. Waste of time... Morover, I emailed to inquire about a package for their dance classes and I have never got a reply... Unfortunately bad customer service.

Barbara Mendes

Excellent! Teachers, staff, the studios. Everything.

Zola Magwood

They offer a wide variety of beginner and advanced classes every day. There's also a large variety of styles and disciplines from ballet to tap to salsa to acrobatics.

Loved the aerial silks workshop with Haley. She is a gem!

Friendly front desk staff and instructors, and lovely studio. Very welcoming to all levels of dance. Although frustrating to drive 45 minutes to get to class and have it cancelled, I understand why. In the end management contacted me to rectify the situation.

I have sat in front of a computer for the better part of 40 years and was looking for an enjoyable way to unlock my stiffness. I have only sporadically taken dance lessons since my 30s, (never as a child), and am trying genres that didn't even EXIST in my younger days, so I am a true beginner. The Zoom classes are not only safe.. you can mess up the steps unselfconsciously in the privacy of your own home with video disabled. Even though my classes have been virtual, I feel a connection with each instructor. They are ALL so professional, friendly, patient, supportive and happy to answer questions. I'm sure being in the studio will be even better, but I am sticking to virtual for now and highly recommend City Dance Corps to anyone who wants to dance, but thought it was too late. This is way more fun than running.

I rented one of the studio's at City Dance Corps for a short documentary being made about a dancer and frequent CDC student. The staff were SUPER helpful and completely accommodated our crew! Beautiful spacious studios! Had an overall great experience here and would very likely rent again! Thanks City Dance Corps!

It's been my dream to dance and I've felt too shy or intimidated to give it a go in the past. While I haven't visited City Dance Corps in-person yet, I started the virtual modern dance for beginners course tonight. The instructor was super sweet and enthusiastic. It's very obvious she wants to give her students the best experience she can provide. Moreover, all my email and phone correspondence with City Dance have been extremely positive and welcoming. For anyone who is even the slightest bit apprehensive or shy about giving dance a try, I highly recommend this studio. I'm really excited about being a part of it now.

I love this studio! I've been meaning to try it out for a very long time and finally made it out. I live in west GTA, outside of Toronto, so it's quite a trek but definitely worth it and I'll be coming back even after my intro pass. My first point of contact was on the phone, then followed by the ladies at the desk who were pleasant and super helpful (especially Katie.. Thank you)! Nasary and KJ ammmmazing instructors and I love their classes. They broke down each move in very simple steps that were easy to understand. Thank you both! I hadn't realized that despite the classes at a beginner level that I'd sweat so much! I was super hangry after :o I'll be back this week to try Makka's Dancehall class which I've heard is awesome and a house music class. Can't wait!

I've never had any formal dance training. I went to a Dancehall Drop In Class on Sunday, and absolutely had a blast! The instructor was amazing, didn't matter what your dance level was, he broke it down for you. I ended up purchasing extra passes while there. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to just get out, get some exercise, and have a great time dancing and learning some new moves! I also sweat more than any cardio exercise I've done, and I'm a very active person. Check it out!!

I took a couple of the virtual classes. If you really want to dance in the privacy of your own home then I would recommend trying out a few classes since the quality of the instructors varies. I tried a hip hop class which was a bit disappointing.. I then decided to give it another go and tried the Salsa with Melanie which was amazing. The instructions were clear and the class was super fun and she is very enthusiastic. And I worked up a sweat. I think the virtual format is a great way to sample classes.

I went to City Dance Corps for my bachelorette and absolutely adored the Whitney Houston themed dance class Vlad put together for us! The ladies in my group were all different ages and levels and every single one of us had the greatest time! Vlad was both professional and entertaining and to top it off he put together a fantastic music video of all of us channeling our inner Whitney! Thank you so much Vlad for making my bachelorette so memorable and so much fun, and thank you to the team at City Dance Corps for being so easy to communicate and plan with.

Very nice space in the fashion district. The space is very lovely and spacious and there are quite a few studio floors offering a good selection of classes. Tried the 2week unlimited drop in class package at $50 and I’m liking the range of offers. Just beware a lot of classes are quite advanced so for absolute beginners it may be a bit daunting. But if you don’t mind the challenge then hey, why not?

I had taken a hip hop class with Raoul at another studio and loved his class. Due to injuries I couldn't exercise for a while, now that I'm back to good health, I had to get my groove back on and knew that Raoul did a killer class, so I found him at CDC, did a class and it kicked my @ss! Love this place, Raoul is an incredible instructor and dancer, can't wait to get groovier with Raoul's help! Highly recommend.

The initial experience was good so I signed for a three month minimum drop-in class membership. But I’ve recently been charged for a class I attended from the drop-in schedule. I was pretty certain the studio should refund me since it was their responsibility this mistake happened. Money aside, I am just disappointed at how they failed to actively take responsibility to improve. There is definitely a gap or ‘trap’ customers might fall into if not careful enough.

I have mostly great reviews with a slight negativity. They have 3 Stella Male instructors that all teach Latin dancing. One teaches Intermediate Salsa 2 and Bachata who is the perfect example of what customer service is. The other is Master @ Bachata but only does private and workshops . The other Male instructor who I have dealt with is the Co-owner who is very pleasant in dealing with and is an amazing instructor and dancer. Unfortunately the only dealing I have had is one unpleasant receptionist and another Latin instructor who lacks a bit of customer service. The one thing I have to say is what makes a successful business is your customer service. I work in the service industry and I can say first hand the company I work for is a multi billion dollar company an they strive tooth and nail on customer service an that is what makes them successful.

M A

The studio is nice enough but the policies are a little wacky. I showed up 5 mins early for class, the lady at the front desk took my money without mentioning to me that I was the only one registered for that class, 10mins later the class got cancelled because they needed at least 4 people and it was just me. I was not able to get a refund. The right way to handle a situation like this would be to inform me before I pay that I am the only one there for this class, so there is a high chance of it getting cancelled. Most dance studios have the number of people registered for the class on their website, that way you can tell if the class will be running or not.

Alicia Gravestone

Cancelled class due to lack of people then would not give a refund.

I was always interested in dancing but never really looked into. I tried city Dance Corps 50$ unlimited two weeks pass, and i Loved it, different variety , types of class for everyone to enjoy, from tap dance to break dance and hippop to name a few. im now a regular client there and really enjoy it there

I have been taking classes at City Dance Corps since the pandemic started and it has been such a great experience! I have taken the Absolute Beginner modern courses with Sarah and they are so much fun, and I always feel challenged without being overwhelmed. She is a wonderful instructor. I also always enjoy the drop-in classes for trying out different styles or just getting in some extra movement. When I have had questions or concerns the staff has been really responsive and accommodating - they really want students to have a positive experience! Finally, as a fat person I sometimes have concerns about the inclusiveness of fitness spaces, but I have always felt welcome at CDC.

I can't believe the bad reviews. Please, please just try it out if you've never been. I've never danced. I saw an amazing video on Instagram of a teacher leading a wildly fun dance class and I literally put on my shoes and walked over. Staff were nice! Instructor was amazing! Class was so fun and I worked out for an hour without even realizing it was a workout. I was more out of breathe than a spin class. But I wasn't looking at the clock. What a fun, great workout while laughing at yourself. Like I can't dance but improv, or do your best! You can only get better. The studio was warm and I loved it. It felt like a great detox which is much needed in this hectic city. It satisfied my hot yoga craving, my club craving, my dance craving, my spin class craving, and going to the gym all from listening to a wild song and grinding my hips! Too much fun. In regards to the posts re: money, meh it is a business first. That stuff doesn't bother me. Promise me if you've never tried and always wanted to, you will stop by and try. I walked out of that class feeling really, really good. Best workout of my life I am in so much pain haha!! MUST TRY. You will enjoy and if you don't atleast you can find out for yourself. I'll be back!

Amethyst Dreams

I bought a $50 class pass and tried to join in on some beginner/intermediate ballet and jazz classes but was told I shouldn't go into them because I didn't have at least 3 years of professional dance background. I felt like I wasn't really welcome there. Maybe they shouldn't be advertised as beginner classes if they are intended for professional dancers. I was told I was welcome in their fitness classes...I wanted to pay to be taught how to dance. Not be in a Zumba type class. (Zumba is great I'm not kickin it but I was hoping for some dance fundamentals without spending over 100 for a session when I hadn't even tried out the place yet). I did join in on a flexibility class and the teacher was really good. So I certainly won't bash the teachers. Anyways it left much to be desired and it was more of a stinky vibe than anything else. Plain and simple I didn't feel welcome and I won't be back.

I feel like im dancing in New York! I moved to Toronto to pursue my dance career, and this place has the best instructors. Since I moved here, ive been getting hired for so many gigs, and the instructors are so wonderful in inviting me and introducing me to their networks! The front desk staff is extremely sweet and helpful, 4 great studios, and they have merchandise too. I recommend this place to all my friends!

A great studio, used to be my favourite but I've gravitated more towards Underground Dance Centre recently because of the "difficulty levels" of the studios. CDC is still a good studio for beginners and people learning to dance. They offer amazing beginner 4-7 week courses which is something you should take advantage of to try a style you've never done before. But I wish that they would offer more courses for more styles and more intermediate, advanced levels where people who want a more regular class basis and feel like they are still constantly improving after the beginner levels with help from a teacher who has seen them grow.

Makka's Dancehall class on Wednesday nights are soooo fun! Makka always has a smile and great, positive energy! He's an amazing teacher that takes each class through stretches, drills, and breaks down a dance routine into smaller parts so by the end of the class, we all leave having learned an entire routine and feeling like a pro.. But mostly having fun!

The new space is nice, big and airy! I went to film a video in one of their studios. They have beautiful rustic looking brick walls, I'll attach a picture.
