Don't miss out on the lobster sandwich!

If you're visiting Quebec this is a great place in old port that you should try at least once. I would recommend the ham and cheese croissant as it was the best I've ever had, it was stacked with ham and cheese and once it was re-heated it was flaky and buttery. Surprisingly a regular croissant was not so good and would not get it again. This place is a little pricy for what you're getting but that's most places in this area.

I visited here a couple times while vacationing in Quebec City. I’m a bit conflicted on how to review this, but I think a 3.5 stars is appropriate. The food, on its own, was lovely. I adored the broccoli cheddar soup, and the brie and ham sandwich was AMAZING. I also tried both their hot and cold coffee - the hot was decent, but the cold was a bit lacklustre. The only sugar they had was hard, so it wouldn’t stir into cold coffee. Still, not a huge deal. My issues arise with the place itself. First, it’s important to note this place is very popular. It’s definitely for good reason, as the food IS good. But it was a bit overwhelming. There were arrows placed on the floors to direct you, but they didn’t match up to the barricades they placed for the line. Essentially, the arrows made no sense (at least not when I was there). It also wasn’t super clear how to order food vs baked goods, but I learned you order them at different locations. I wish there were more signs saying that. I also found their Covid-19 precautions lacking. There was hardly any social distancing in the lines, and no markers indicating how far people should stand from one another. There was a sheet for contact tracing… but hardly anybody wrote on it, and it wasn’t really obvious at all. Thankfully, the tables are pretty long so it’s not too hard to sit away from people. But with so many customers in one location, I felt a bit uncomfortable. Essentially, they have great food! But the lack of pandemic safety, misleading arrows and packed crowds made me not want to go back. If you’re prone to social anxiety, this isn’t the place for you (I say this as someone who has anxiety). However, their bread was great and the food was delicious.

Delicious pastries! Tried a lot of them and was very good. We went in the morning for breakfast and got the Combo Matin. A breakfast croissant sandwich which was warm and flaky with bacon and cheese. All good stuff! Recommend to come try it.

Nice cafe in old Quebec. It is extremely busy but the service is fast which is impressive. I love how they decorated very nicely for Christmas and how big the space is. I have a gluten allergy and they were not able to accommodate that which is why I am giving it a low rating. Despite this my partner got croissant with Nutella which he enjoyed and I got a latte which was decent. I would definitely return again if they decide to introduce some gluten free options.

Tldr: awesome place for breakfast Nothing bad can be said about this place. You come, you order some sandwich, and it was simply amazing. Considered the time period and how packed everywhere else is, this is really good. Ordered coffee, smoked meat paillard, and Martin combo. Very tasty! Highly recommended!

Very cute cafe/bakery/canteen. As soon as you enter, the fragrances of the baked goods, coffee and bread make your mouth start to water. My wife and I got a spot in the long table and I ordered the sandwich (pic attached). I would recommend to everyone that you ask for them to make it hot which helps the bread to become crispier and the cheese to melt. They serve a small pasta salad with the sandwich and the meal was complete. The staff is super helpful and were trying to explain me the ingredients in english which made the visit even better. If you come to Quebec city, you have to have a meal or coffee here.

When we were planning our recent trip to Quebec City Paillard was a must see for us. It has been in the upper town QC a long time and just down the road from our hotel Hotel du Vieux Quebec. It was a Sunday early afternoon and the place was very busy and very loud. It’s a large space with long tables and even an accordion player for they extra ambiance. The servers were friendly but there was a hectic feel. We ordered two sandwiches (beef and blue cheese and a ham and cheese croissant). Both were good but not wow. We didn’t stop in again for the rest of our trip and opted for a quieter coffee shop down the street for our morning coffees and pastries

I ordered the sandwich combo with yhe Paillard salad, if you like blue cheese this salad is for you. The staff is kind and polite. This is a good place for breakfast or for lunch. Such a great stop. Living up to all the hype. Had 4 types of pastries. Nutella cookies, chocolate croissant, marzipan and dolce de leche filled croissants. Had some amazing service by the staff and it was such a treat to sit on the patio with my family and enjoy the box full of fun. Prices are reasonable for the taste, quality and they ingredients they use. Highly recommend.

We came by here often for sandwiches. This Boulangerie became our favorite stop after a day of sightseeing. We grabbed sandwiches, soups and a dessert to take back to the hotel for a meal. A nice change, and cheaper than going to a restaurant every night. Everything we tried was excellent. The banquettes and croissants were very good.

Very busy specialty bakery. They specialize in baked goods, and breads/sandwiches. Their breakfast croissant sandwich was amazing. It was so flaky and buttery, and mixed in with the egg had that creaminess to it. Their pastries were also to die for. Highly recommend!

The clientele of Cap-Rouge being very demanding (see the IGA sources) no improvements on the service could be damaging for this new promising trade! Nice bakery to visit in Old Quebec. They have a wide variety of breads and pastries to choose from and coffees as well. The Croissant is what we went for and it was good but nothing spectacular until they heated it up on a Ham and Cheese Croissant that you should ask them to make fresh and heat up and get ready for something spectacular. Things are a tad pricey as I guess it’s in the tourist area but nonetheless I still think it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area ????????

Our tour guide claimed they had the best croissants in town and we all agreed. They were fluffy, slightly crispy with an subtle almond flavor. Prepared food is top notch, especially the salads. It's a great place to have breakfast although the menu is pretty standard. Most of the ingredients appear to be fresh, but not all. The bakery is good, not great. Croissants could be softer, bread could be a little fresher, especially with all the people pouring through. The coffee is good, much better than the chains but not quite local cafe standard. Crowds are huge, the lines are long, and the prices are a little high, but overall I would recommend this place for breakfast if you're ever in town.

Highly recommend going in the morning and getting everything you want as it gets support busy later on and they run out of stuff. This place is amazing and a must go to when visiting the city. Pastries are top quality and amazing! I highly recommend the orange brioche and the cinnamon brioche. I'll be going back here every day on my trip! They had live music, an accordion playing, which added to the authentic atmosphere. Prices are excellent as well... not expensive at all.

So what do you look to eat when you are in a place with very strong French influence? Definitely good boulangerie items like croissant. Having read multiple recommendations online, this appeared top of the list almost all the time so when this happens, it's either they have paid enough advertisement money or the things they sell or do are legitimately good. In this case, the croissant is really good. Buttery, very flaky, with great lamination will be my experience with the croissant. I had this for lunch and it was satisfying, except that is was not filling. I bought another bun but that's ordinary so if anything, stick to the croissant. It seems that it's a self service kind of place similar to fast food outlets. You order at the counter, they prepare your food and if reheating is required, they will call your number (on your receipt) and you can pick it up and find your own seat (inside or outside). I had my breads to go, fuss free. Will definitely return here again for the croissant.

We really enjoyed our breakfast and fully intend on going back. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The were much busier than usual, so tables weren't being cleaned and the dirty dishes were left to pile up. I highly recommend this place.

This place offers fantastic coffee, great croissants, bread and ready to eat meals. We bought breakfast that we ate onsite in a family style long table dining room... You have to wait to order & pay before you eat. They don't offer table service. However, it's pretty quick and they have great logistics and ordering & service system. Both were fantastic, eggs on croissants and it's sweet and salty sandwich were tasty and well balanced!!!! For dinner, we ordered sandwiches that were also very good. The fruit salads were canned and not very good though.

A friend recommended this place so we came to check out their croissant matin that they are famous for. I ordered one with bacon and wow! The croissant was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside (because of the bacon grease and hollandaise sauce). The texture and taste combination was perfect. I also got a plain croissant on its own but it didn’t taste that amazing. They sell a variety of pastries as well that you can purchase and take home.

A must visit when we’re in Quebec City! The pastries and meals made to order are like chicken soup for the soul. It can get crowded and the line can get long, but the staff work well to move through the line quickly. My husband and I order an assortment of pastries (e.g., croissants, tarts, pain au chocolat, etc.) and also both got breakfast combinations. He had tea with his combo and I had a wonder cafe au lait. In nice weather there is nice outdoor seating as well.

This is an exemplary restaurant. Almost everything just perfect. It is a slice of Parisian sophistication that is well worth a stop for any traveler heading to Montreal and looking for a breakfast. The Ambiance is wonderful the staff is patient and francophone the food is Paramount. Baked goods, baguette, delicious. A really terrific design accessible to all comfortable fast Wi-Fi excellent.

I had gotten out early to avoid crowds with Old Quebec, however in need of a coffee. I had searched for a boulangerie nearby and was delighted to see Paillard was open from 0700h. It was not busy at all and the members greeted me with kind eyes behind their facemasks, also speaking French & English. I had picked up the breakfast combination that came with a ham croissant, café of choice and side fruit salad along with a chocolate almond croissant. I can say I'm not a "sweets" person but these buttery croissants blew me away. While I was finishing my croissant outside on the their street terrace, I heard someone say while walking by that these were the best croissants in Quebec. I would not doubt it!

This is a great place for desserts and coffee. They have a great selection of breads as well and they make sandwiches. We went late at night almost before closing, so it was pretty empty but it looks like it can get busy during certain times. It is very spacious and the have tables to eat inside. We thought this was a real cafe given the reviews…the $4.50 latte they served is Nespresso so not a real latte-I could have made that at home!! Our last stop just before leaving Quebec was Paillard. And I mean what a gorgeous, scrumptious bakery this is. We so regret not having breakfast here everyday that we were in Old Quebec. I don't have enough words to describe how flaky their croissant was, how absolutely delicious their almond croissant was, with not a hint of bitterness to it (unlike most almond croissants), and how perfect the coffee was. The variety of baked goods from breads, to sandwiches to desserts is endless. And though we didn't get to try all their goodies, judging by their croissants we are sure everything would be simply scrumptious. All said, we highly recommend this bakery + cafe to everyone visiting Old Quebec. Mind you! The only thing you really want to be prepared for is the long queues inside and outside the shop - shows how popular it is. And, yes we recommend dining inside this lovely bakery ????

Went there yesterday ordered a spinach sandwich, pastry and cappuccino. Loved every bit of it. Not only the food was delicious but the staff was very friendly too. We really enjoyed this place! We originally had it in our itinerary for 1 morning but ended up going 3 times during our week long trip in Quebec City! Their croissants are so delicious and fluffy. This is the most disorganized business I've ever seen. They have 3 different cashes and depending on what you want to order determines which cash you need to go to. How are customers supposed to know your system? There was zero direction given. I was moved to the 2nd cash, then told to go to the 3rd. When I didn't get my coffee, she told me it would be at the 2nd cash where I had to wait another 5 minutes to ask for my coffee. The reason I didn't give a lower rating was because the food was good.

Got some type of an almond pastry and an olive bread and it was pretty good. The staff on the other hand need more training. The lady checking us out did not understand a single word of English and the non French speaking customers in front of us also had trouble trying to get her to understand the order. They also ask for a tip during payment which is weird since this is a self serving establishment.

Such a great bakery. Staff is really friendly and the selection is huge. The products are a bit more on the pricey side. Sandwiches are great, especially rosemary ham and roast beef. One of the best croissant you will ever try. This place in the middle of old QC, I originally had reservation going there, thinking that it might be one of those tourist trap but it definitely was not the case. This is a popular bakery/cafe within the gates of Old Town. The baked goods are very nice and service is great (service in Quebec City is very good in general). I took a star off for mediocre coffee. I took another off for 10 min wait in line to order given how busy it was. The place is large enough and could have had multiple servers to speed up the wait. For those going early and only ordering baked goods five stars would be more appropriate.
